Set & Forget® Timekeeping Frequently Asked Questions

It’s almost time to spring forward for Daylight Saving Time! Forget the hassle of moving your clocks ahead one hour when you switch to Set & Forget® timekeeping from Klockit.

Set & Forget® technology enables clock movements to automatically spring forward and fall back when the Daylight Saving Time change occurs twice a year. No radio signals required!

How does it work? Check out our top FAQs on Set & Forget® technology:

How do Set & Forget® clocks work?

Answer: There is a microchip that keeps track of the current date and time with its built-in calendar that’s programmed to 2098 with all the Daylight Saving Time change dates. The microchip knows when the DST change dates occur and will automatically advance your clock hands to show the correct time. The DST changes take place at 3:00 a.m. Eastern, 2:00 a.m. Central, 1:00 a.m. Mountain, and 12:00 a.m. Pacific time. When you wake up in the morning, the correct time will always be displayed. Pretty cool, huh?14148-1

Where can I use Set & Forget® clocks?

Answer: Clocks equipped with Set & Forget® technology do not receive a radio signal, so you don’t have to worry placing it in a certain location. Use Set & Forget® clocks anywhere in your home, office, school, etc. The DST change dates are preprogrammed to follow the United States and Canadian time changes.

When I put my battery in, the hands started moving really fast. What’s going on?

Answer: Don’t worry! The clock movement is doing an internal diagnostic check. Wait for the clock hands to stop moving and then set the time using the set knob on the back of the clock movement.

I like to set my clocks to be 5 minutes fast so I’m not late. Can I set it 5 minutes fast?

Answer: Yes you can. Set & Forget® clocks can be set however many minutes ahead you prefer. When the DST changes occur, the clock movement will adjust and maintain the time difference you chose during initial set up.

What happens during the bi-annual DST changes?

Answer: At 3:00 a.m. Eastern time during the Fall, the clock movement will move the clock hands fast forward 11 hours to achieve a setback of 1 hour from standard time to DST time. In the Spring, the clock movement will move the clock hands really fast 1 hour to achieve the advance of 1 hour.

I gather the set and forget clocks have a small internal battery to keep the calendar chip going- what happens when that battery runs down I can’t see anyway to revive the clock at that point.

      Hi Will,

Our Set and Forget clock movements contain an internal battery that is meant to 6+ years. Once the internal battery depletes itself, the calendar will no longer operate and the clock movement would need to be manually updated for DST. We hope this information helps! Please let us know if you have any more questions!

how do you calibrate arms when installing a new atomic clock

    • Klockit May 21, 2018 / 8:03 am

Hi Duffy, start by setting your atomic movement to your current time zone using the switch (1) on the back of the movement. If you live in an area that recognizes Daylight Savings Time, make certain the DST switch (2) is set to “on”. This will ensure that the clock adjusts to for DST when the time is appropriate. If your area does not recognize DST, then set the switch to the “off” position.

Remove the pin (3) from the back of the movement. Insert a fresh 1.5 volt alkaline battery into the battery compartment. Place the clock in an area 10-15 feet away from electrical appliances, and face the clock in the general direction of Colorado (where the radio signal originates from). Allow 24 to 48 hours for the movement to receive the radio signal and automatically adjust the time.

We hope this helps! If try these steps and your movement will not synchronize, please contact us at 1-262-729-4855.
